After nationwide outrage, Govt puts Geelani under house arrest | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report JAMMU, May 5: Succumbing to the nationwide outrage and pressure from the Union Home Ministry, the Jammu and Kashmir Government put hardliner Huriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest for his anti-India and pro Pakistan rally at Tral in South Kashmir. Geelani's detention comes three days after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed promised "action" against hoisting of Pakistani flag in Tral during Geelani's rally. But the coalition partner BJP is said to be upset over the house arrest of Geelani and demanded his proper arrest like that of Masarat Alam. As per the eyewitnesses, there is heavy police deployment outside Geelani's Hyderpora residence since dawn, beside the main entrance gate was also blocked by the police vehicle. It is pertinent to mention that Minister of State in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh confirmed to "Early Times" the other day that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed assured the Union Government that his government will initiate action against Geelani for his anti-India rant. |
