New Delhi, May 15: A panel of chief ministers working on rationalisation of centrally-sponsored schemes (CSS) will submit its report to the government by June 10.
The sub-group of chief ministers on the CSS will finalise its draft recommendations in the next meeting on May 28 at Bhopal.
"We discussed the draft paper on CSS scheme today. We will finalise recommendations on May 28. It will take about 10 days to fine-tune recommendations. We have decided to submit report by June 10 (to Centre)," Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told reporters here today.
Chouhan was briefed by the Finance Ministry officials on the impact of increasing states' share in taxes to 42 per cent from 32 per cent earlier as recommended by the 14th Finance Commission.
The rationalisation of centrally-sponsored schemes is important as the Centre has decided to raise states' share in taxes to 42 per cent.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was also present during the briefing by the Finance Ministry officials. In earlier meeting of the sub-group, Raje had certain queries.
A source said that one of the states had apprehensions that under new scheme of devolution of funds between Centre and states, it would lose as much as Rs 6,000 crore.
"Some of states have said in the previous meeting of the sub-group that the states would lose over Rs 55,000 crore in a fiscal after rationalisation of CSS and increasing their share in taxes to 42 per cent," the source said.
After the meeting, Chouhan said, "We had two regional council meetings with states on board. We will have two more regional council meetings so that suggestions of all states are incorporated in final recommendations."
Chouhan is the convener of the sub-group of chief ministers on CSS.
At present, there are 72 centrally-sponsored schemes, including six new schemes introduced by the NDA government. During the UPA regime the number of such schemes was reduced from 147 to 66.
The sub-group on CSS has Chief Ministers of 11 states, including Rajasthan, Nagaland, Manipur, Jharkhand, Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.
