Jammu, May 15: Former CM and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah has finally decided to take hold of the reins of the party after its debacle in both Parliamentary and Assembly elections. The party president, who still carries charisma and connects to the people, is holding regular meeting and charting out the discourse of the party. It was for this reason, he decided to come to Jammu and also moved around the city. "Farooq Abdullah is probably the only leader from Kashmir, who can connect directly with the people of the Jammu region. He presents a liberal and secular face of the party, which has exceedingly slipped from it," said a senior leader of the party, wishing not to be named. Farooq in the past has been visiting this Bazaar and holding regular interaction with the people there. He had been doing this in the past also and it was because of this reason, the NC despite the resurgent PDP, could manage to get 28-seats in the 2002 elections, much more than the 16 seats held by the party in 2014 elections, when the party was virtually headed by the Omar Abdullah. The NC president in a bid to infuse confidence among the cadre and also with the people of the state, after he was operated in the London, made quotable quotes: I am fine. In sringar he had said " I am back". "Farooq is known for his charisma and one-liners. But these lines, he deliberately used to make a point that he is not only fit enough to stay in the state politics but for a long time," said the NC leader, wishing not to be named. The NC party cadre believes that if anyone else can match the political skills of the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and take him head-on , then it is only Farooq Abdullah. "He is the best bet for survival of the party, as long as Mufti is on the scene. Omar Abdullah can't match his skills and he can at the best take on Mehbooba Mufti , who still has to prove her administrative credentials. So its for this reason, Farooq Abdullah, has decided to get on the field," said the senior leader. |
