GPS Kewal finally becomes case of 'better late than never'

Rajouri, May 14: In a atypical example of better late than never, but the district administration after a gap of more than 5 years finally woke up from its slumber and started classes in the Govt Primary School (GPS) building in Kewal -Kotranka of Rajouri District today which was locked in 2010 by the person claiming to have donated the land for said school.
Sources said, "A team lead by Sukh Pal Singh, Sub District Magistrate (SDM), Kotranka accompanied by officiating Station House Officer (SHO)Sajjad Ahmed and ZEO, Kotranka-Budhal Zone visited the school and in the presence of an eyewitness and unlocked the school room."
The officials also directed teacher to take possession of building and start classes. "SDM also has directed the SHO concerned to provide security to children and staff, sources added.
SDM also asked the donor Shoba Ram and family members to visit his office at Kotranka so that their claim and other problems get resolved amicably.
'The school was locked by the Shaba Ram and his family for the last five years and several complaints were pouring in about the problems being faced by the teachers and student," said SDM Kotranka.
As per information available with The Early Times, one Shoba Ram s/o Hari Chand of village Kewal in Budhal in Rajouri district had donated the land for the construction of school building. "After the introduction of Mid Day Meal (MDM) schemes in the government schools and on an verbal agreement with the Education officials Jogindra Devi, daughter-in-law of Shaba Ram was appointed as cook in the school to provide some financial help to the family, they added.
"Till 2010, she continue to work (for one year) as cook and after the involvement of some vested interests and in nexus with educational officials the services of my daughter-in-law were terminated and another cook was appointed. On some monetarily considerations, said Shoba Ram .
He added that the matter was also brought into the notice of the then Chief Education Officer, the then ZEO but nobody bothered to provide justice to us. However to get attention of the concerned Education Officials Shoba Ram and his family locked the school rooms and forced the school administration to hold classes in the open. "The school was shifted to a nearby single room having no window and dilapidated walls and roof and the school staff was finding very hard to run five classes and to keep the school records," school teacher said.
"During last five years no official either from education department or from the administrative side bothered to take possession of the locked four room school building, they added.
