Upgrade security on LOC, IB with stepup in IS & Taliban activities | | | Security scenario in Afghanistan and Pa- kistan continue to be in a state of flux. And if New Delhi feels upset over the deteriorating law and order situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan as a result of stepup in the activities of Taliban and the IS it is but natural because the impact of the worsening security scenario in India's neighbourhood could have its negative impact on India. In fact while the Taliban gunmen have become quite active with reports indicating that the US led NATO forces were shortly leaving Afghanistan, these gunmen have begun escalating the level of violence in order to create scare among people so that more and more Afghan nationals joined the Taliban in order to help the outfit in extending their operations in Pakistan and other countries in the neighbourhood of Afghanistan and Pakistan. And what seems to worry New Delhi is the way the Taliban gunmen are trying to target the Indian and the American nationals. This is evident from the armed attack on a guesthouse in Kabul on Wednesday. In the attack four Indians and an American were among 14 people killed when Taliban gunmen stormed a guesthouse in the Afghan capital thinking that the Indian Ambassador was inside the complex popular among foreign nationals as the attack ended after hours long siege. Three gunmen had launched a brazen assault at the Park Palace Guest house, located in the Kolola Pushta area of the Kabul city. Soon after the gunmen stormed the guest house, Afghan National Security Forces including Special Forces arrived and began striking back the attackers and also rescuing those under siege inside the guest house. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the siege at the guesthouse, which was about to host a musical concert. "The attack was planned carefully to target the party in which important people and Americans were attending," the militants said in a statement. And despite targeting Indian nationals Islamabad still believed that the Indian intelligence agencies, especially the RAW were trying to promote anti-Pakistan feelings among people in Afghanistan. Pakistan believes that India, in the guise of economic aid,was trying to support terror in Afghanistan without realising the adverse impact of the activities of terrorists in Pakistan itself. And the last Wednesday was a black day for Pakistan because Pistol-wielding gunmen in Pakistan's biggest city Karachi stormed a bus carrying members of the Ismaili minority, killing at least 43 in the first attack in the country officially claimed by the IS.The IS claims, posted on Twitter, are set to raise fears over the extremists' growing influence after they announced in January the creation of a branch in what they called "Khorasan province", encompassing Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of surrounding countries. Pakistani police also found leaflets claiming IS responsibility at the scene of the attack in the city's eastern Malir district, while the homegrown Jundullah militant faction which some analysts suspect of having ties to IS made a separate claim of responsibility. This brutal attack on the bus, carrying members of the minority community, may have been part of triggering sectarian clashes in Pakistan but India is worried over the birth of IS in Pakistan. Once IS was able to mushroom its units and increase the number of its activists it could derail peace in India. Already the Army and the ISI in Pakistan have brought several hundred militants on the launch pads across the LOC and IB for pushing them into Jammu and Kashmir. It can be possible that some groups of militants belonging to the IS and some Taliban could also be brought on the launch pads for crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. IS has already set up its units, some in the shape of IM, at a couple of places in India and once more IS activists cross into Jammu and Kashmir it could lead to total derailment of peace, security and political stability. Hence the developments across the border, whether in Pakistan or Afghanistan, do warrant upgrading of the security grid not only on the LOC and the IB but within the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian troops have to initiate measures which could ensure infiltration falling to zero level. |
