Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 4: Army has said it will provide all possible assistance to the Jammu and Kashmir government to bring peace in the region, which has been on the boil since the killing of Hizb-ul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8. Northern army commander, Lt Gen DS Hooda, accompanied by Chinar corps commander, Lt Gen Satish Dua called on chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday at her official residence and discussed the prevailing security situation in the Valley, a defence spokesman said. Hooda appealed to all sections of the society, especially the youth to "exercise calm and maintain peace". He said the prevailing state of violence has led to losses in terms of "education of children, damage to public property, losses to traders and daily wagers and has badly affected tourism". "The most precious loss is that of young people who were the sole breadwinners of their families," Hooda said. Earlier in the day, Lt Gen DS Hooda visited different areas of Kashmir valley and reviewed the security situation and "collaborative measures of security forces towards ensuring peace and calm in the region". |
