NSF protests against JU Vice Chancellor to clear stand on UIET issue
2/23/2018 10:26:13 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 23: Strongly condemning the State Government for usurping the University College of Engineering and Technology (UIET) established by the University of Jammu (JU), the National Secular Forum (NSF) today strong protest demonstration against the Vice Chancellor Prof Ramji Dass Sharma for facilitating the same and asked him to clear his stand over the issue. Addressing the gathering here today, NSF District President, Rishikesh Rana said, "It was not possible for the state government to take over the asset created by JU without the consent of the Vice Chancellor and astonishingly, instead of the resisting government move, he facilitated the dilute of varsity's autonomy. He said UIET was established by University of Jammu last year and started courses in the block opposite Directorate of Distance Education. A batch of 64 students is currently undergoing the studies in UIET and their future is almost uncertain with the interference of the government and criminal silence maintained by the Vice Chancellor, Rishikesh Rana added. "It was the responsibility of the Vice Chancellor to watch the interest of students enrolled in UIET but he does the otherwise. The students took admission in UIET because of it being constituent college of JU and not an affiliated one. Now, any attempt to shift these students to other colleges would tantamount to playing with their future", he added. He said at the time of its inception, the State Govt had asked JU to start the courses on self supporting basis but after a cabinet meeting where 68 positions for the college were sanctioned, the Govt snatched the institute in a sheer misuse of its authority whereas, the Vice Chancellor instead of opposing facilitated the same just to please govt so as to manage extension on his post.
