Kishtwar Police nab fake journalist

Kishtwar, Feb 23: Kishtwar Police today claimed to have arrested a fake journalist and recovered microphone, logos and fake I-Cards of some TV Channel from his possession.
As per the details available with Early Times, the fake journo was blackmailing the government officials and innocent public and extorting of money from them.
The Police said that they received information that one Rangeel Kumar S/O Mohan Lal R /O Danggernallah Chingam, Tehsil Chatroo of Kishtwar is moving in various areas of the district along with microphone and logo of some TV channels and an identity card of the said channel. The Police further received the information that the fake journo was approaching and threatening the government officials of different departments like CAPD, RDD, PHE and others to file press reports of embezzlements and misappropriation against them if they failed to pay him the desired money.
Acting on this information police registered case FIR No. 07/2018 under sections 419, 467, 468, 471 RPC in Police Station Chatroo and started investigations. The Police parties of Police Station Chatroo headed by Inspector Haji Bashir finally arrested him and recovered some fake stamps from his possession.
The police contacted the management of the said Channel at Jammu and after enquiry it was found that there was no reporter or journalist of this channel with this name and particulars in district Kishtwar.
The police during the course of investigation have identified a number of persons from whom the accused has extorted money. It has been revealed that the accused was trying to contact the power project authorities by taking along with him the leaders of worker unions to blackmail the authorities and make money from them.
Police said that some other complaints of harassment of public, govt officials were also received and the police is looking into all such complaints.
