Patwaris give one week ultimatum to Govt failing which they would proceed on pen down strike | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 25: Land Record Assistants (LRAs) known as Patwaris in local parlance are proceeding on an indefinite pen down strike from next Monday in case the state government does not fulfill their demands by that day. A press release issued by Secretary All Jammu & Kashmir Patwar Association (AJKPA) says that an ultimatum of one week has been given to the state government to fulfill the demands of Patwaris. The press release says that in case the government fails to do the 'needful' then the Patwaris would proceed on continuous pen down strike. "On the conclusion of four days token strike on the 24th of February 2018 working committee of all J&K Patwar Association unanimously decided to give ultimatum to government to fulfill our demands in one week's time positively, otherwise after the conclusion of a week's time AJKPA will go on continuous pen down strike till the fulfillment of all demands," reads the press release issued by Secretary AJKPA. Secretary AJKPA through the press release has requested chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, revenue minister Abdul Rehman Veeri and finance minister Haseeb A Drabu to fulfill the pending of Patwaris in the state. He said the demands have already been accepted by the revenue minister. It would be in place to mention here that the Patwaris across the length and breadth of the state carried out a four day token strike in support of their demands. The four day token strike began on February 21 and culminated on February 24. The strike affected the functioning of the department with people being the ultimate sufferers. The Patwaris under the ambit of AJKPA are demanding enhancement of grade pay, conduct of departmental promotion committee, increasing the grade pay of graduate Patwaris, provision of rent for private Patwar Khanas, creation of Patwar and Girdawar circles, allotment of charge allowances for Patwaris and Girdawars and abolition of direct recruitment of Naib Tehsildars. The AJKPA has said that for the last three years they have carried out series of meetings with the Minister for Revenue. The Association said that they projected the demands and in turn got mere assurances time and again from the people at helm. The AJKPA said that a committee formed by the state government to look into the demands of Patwaris had recommended that the demands are genuine and these should be fulfilled without fail. It said the recommendations of the committee have been virtually thrown into the 'dustbin' by the state government. The Association said that the Department of Finance has rejected the file containing the demands of the Patwaris. The Association said that they have been forced to adopt the confrontationist path due to the lackadaisical attitude of the government. |
