JAMMU, Feb 25: J&K Army Porters Union on Friday urged upon the government to provide Government jobs to those who served as porters during Operation Vijay. Addressing media persons in a press conference held here today, President of Union- Darshan Lal Ghai said that porters had served in most difficult terrain in Kargil area along with regular Army and were promised of providing jobs but nothing happened practically. He said that porters were given assurance by Army that they would be preferred for Govt jobs/ recruitment in army but later everything proved to be mere lip service. He further said that Government has framed a policy for stone pelters who miss no opportunity in creating law and order problem but the ones who worked shoulder to shoulder with Army during Kargil war are being ignored. Present were Darshan Singh, Bodh Raj, Bansi Lal, Ashok Kumar, Noval Kishore, Jang Bhadur, Kartar Chand and others. |
