MO Kulgam suspended for private practice

Anantnag, Mar 19: Health Department on Monday suspended Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam for practicing at his private clinic in South Kashmir's Bijbehara town.
Reports said that a team of officials from directorate of health services Kashmir raided the the residence of CMO Kulgam Dr Muhammad Shafi Darzi at Bijbehara yesterday and found him examining the patients at his clinic.
They said that over 100 patients mostly women were present at hic clinic when the team of health department officials raided the clinic.
"The CMO has also been duping the patients by posing as a specialist in dermatology despite being simple MBBS," an official said.
Director Health Service Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman when contacted confirmed that the Chief Medical Offi9cer Kulgam Dr. Muhammad Shafi Darzi was placed under suspension for indulging in illegal private practice.
"Our team raided his clinic and found him practicing. He was immediately suspended because was taking Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) from the department," he added.
Director said that the department has decided to go tough against all those doctors who take Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) from the department and still resort to private practice.
He said that there were many complaints against the concerned CMO from vigilance department, and administrative department.
"He too had received complaints against him so acting on these complaints a team was constituted and his clinic was raided," he said.
This is not for the first time that a doctor was suspended for indulging in private practice but earliuer government suspended three senior doctors at SKIMS after they caught indulging in private practice on tape by a New Delhi based television news channel.
