Substandard material used in construction of culvert, authorities dumb | | | AB Sharma
Early Times Report Rajouri, Mar 19: An influential contractor has allegedly been using substandard material in the ongoing construction of a culvert near Makool Mandir in Sunderbani tehsil here while the concerned authorities have assumed a criminal silence over the matter. The contractor, who is brother of a former MLA, has been constructing culvert in Nallah Makool as a part of the multi-crore project worth over Rs 14 crores. The project is already under scanner for improper work execution. The locals said the larger quantity of stone than the recommended for construction of culvert is being used whereas the Public Works Department (PWD) has conveniently turned a blind eye. The insiders said that over 70 percent stone was being used against recommendation of 20 percent. "The contractor and the engineers are hand in glove," said an insider in the PWD. "The work is worth around Rs 18 lakh and through use of substandard material both the contractor and the concerned engineers look to make money," said an insider. When contacted the PWD engineers downplayed the complaints saying quality work was being executed. Meanwhile the locals have appealed the Minister for PWD to look into the matter. |
