Farmer 'FIRST' holds Site Plan Implementation Committee Meet | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 12: A meeting of the Site Plan Implementation Committee of the Farmer 'FIRST' programme (FFP) of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu was held at village Balore under block Nud of District Samba. The meeting was presided over by Dr. R. K. Arora, Associate Director Extension/Incharge Krishi Vigyan Kendra's and Principal Investigator (PI) of the Farmer FIRST programme (FFP). Narendra Mishra, Chief Agricultural Officer Samba was also present in the meeting. The meeting deliberated upon the action plan for the year 2018-19. Farmers from the selected villages under farmer 'FIRST' were also present. Dr. R.K Arora PI of the FFP started with a detailed overview of the work done in the previous year (2017-18) that included sowing of hybrid maize (Double Dekalb) variety on about 150 ha of land in the selected cluster of villages during Kharif 2017, promotion of vegetables under Rural Backyard Kitchen and Marigold cultivation. Besides these poultry chicks were also distributed to the land less and marginal farmers of the area. Those chicks are now laying eggs which are adding to the nutritional as well as income security of the farmers. Readymade mushroom bags were also provided to the farmers. Speaking in the meeting Narendra Mishra, Chief Agriculture Officer Samba emphasized upon the construction of small farm ponds to conserve water during rainy season. He also stressed upon the availability of good quality feed for the animals and timely vaccination to the livestock. Mishra further asked the farmers to go for mechanization to save labour and time. In this regard, Dr. R. K. Arora told that a maize planter and seed cum ferti drill has already been purchased under farmer 'FIRST' programme and will be provided to them in the coming kharif season. Karan Singh Ex Sarpanch and member of the site plan implementation committee discussed about the good quality reaper for harvesting of wheat crop. Shashi Devi also member of the committee put forth her views regarding self help groups for women. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Pawan Kumar, Scientist and Co-PI of the FFP, Dr. Parveen Kumar SRF, Er. Neelem Kumari, Kunal Jamwal, Sansar Singh, Balwant Singh, Swarn Singh and other farmers of the area. |
