Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Apr 18: It may sound incredible but its true that the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Sudh Mahadev in tehsil Chenani of district Udhampur is functioning without the services of Allopathic doctors rather it is manned by an Ayurvedic doctor. With no Allopathic doctors available, the Ayurvedic doctor is looking after the day to day affairs of the PHC, Sudh Mahadev including performing check-ups of the patients. However, such a make shift arrangement is quite contrary to the allocation of posts made by the Health Department which has earmarked two posts of MBBS doctors and one post of NRHM doctor for PHC Sudh Mahadev but all these posts are lying vacant reasons for which are unknown. Rohit Sharma, a resident of Sudh Mahadev, told Early Times that locals are suffering due to shortage of doctors in the PHC adding that thousands of people are dependent on this PHC, however, non-availability of qualified MBBS doctors force them to opt for taking medical advice either from Udhampur or Jammu. He said that people from several panchayats including Bupp, Sara, Marothi, Saror, Raghi and Mantlai come to this PHC for treatment, however, with no Allopathic doctors available their purpose remain unresolved. Sharma further said that the health department authorities should take urgent notice of the non-availability of Allopathic doctors and make arrangements for posting them at the PHC, Sudh Mahadev. |
