Nowshera , Apr 22: Weary of the large scale encroachments on forest land by land mafia, allegedly in connivance with the officials of the department, people have attributed the menace to the transfer of former DFO who stood against the misadventures of the powerful mafia, who got him attached to the office of the conservator.
Taking note of the illegal encroachments being done in various places at Sunderbani where the forest gold was plundered by mafia, the then Divisional Forest Officer Somdutt Khajuria took up a comprehensive drive against the land mafia to put an end to the illegal encroachment and felling of the trees.
"The powerful land mafia hand in glove with the higher ups got the DFO removed and attached to Chief Conservator's Office Jammu," said one of the locals at Sunderbani .
After his unceremonious ouster, the encroachments are being done at large with no administrative check and the incumbent Divisional Forest Officer is alleged to be hand in glove with the encroachers.
The people of the area have decided to send a deputation to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti with a representation of the areas having been encroached by the land mafia in connivance with DFO Nowshera and seek her intervention in the matter.
"Since the DFO Nowshera is already neck deep in this scam, we have no other means and options to approach any higher ups for stopping their expanding illegal activities," said Mangat ram, a small land owner at Narain Nowshera. |
