Jammu, Apr 27: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today chaired a meeting of J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans. The meeting was convened by Daljit Singh Chib, the Vice Chairman (Minister of State), regarding the preparedness for procurement of wheat (rabi 2017-18) at MSP and for irrigation facilities for coming kharif season in Jammu Division. Chib apprised the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister, about various urgent and important issues being faced by the farmers, including issue of sudden outbreak of fire in standing mature crops, waiver of electricity bills for farmers for pump sets used in agriculture, timely desilting of minor canals/distributaries, etc. Deputy Chief Minister directed the concerned officers to redress the issues of farmers on priority basis. While directing the officers of the PDD to make available the power needed for irrigation purposes asked for exploring the possibility of providing free power to them as well. Deputy Chief Minister also directed the Director Agriculture to undertake a study of the impact as well as cost benefit of Prime Minister's Fasal Bima Yojna and make it more farming community centric and beneficial. He also directed the officers to ensure ban on burning of the let over stubble after harvesting is strictly enforced, so that the incidents of crop burning can be checked and also called for putting in place temporary fire stations in these areas, which are vulnerable to crop loss due to fire outbreak. The Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Hemant Kumar Sharma, General Manager FCI, Director Agriculture, Jammu, Director Command Area Jammu, Chief Engineer, PDD and senior officers of different departments and Members of Kisan Advisory Board were also present in the meeting. |
