The Glamour of Gyming "A curse"
Badrud-Duja5/15/2018 12:00:20 AM
Gym culture in Kashmir has turned more of a syndrome for us. Some people will not agree with but gym culture is not a health habit anymore, it has become more of a serious masculine psychological syndrome.
Firstly, the purpose of Gyming is to maintain fitness which we never understood. For majority of men in Kashmir Gyming is all about body building with huge muscles replicating their body physique with that of Bollywood stars. The irony of present gym culture is that no one wants to be fit but everyone wants to look muscled and tshirts are tightened so that muscles could be displayed on it only to impress others.
Secondly, use of gym supplements for body enhancements is the most common method for enhancing bodybuilding rather than working through proper natural method which takes time men and boys are happily using gym supplements to increase their body muscles inorder to look like body builders within quick time. They are knowingly using supplements at the cost of their health. Thus they turn victims of Bigorexia disorder where a men related to athletics is obsessed with self image, desire to control his body and feels his body is too small. Thanks to the environment of gym within no time a obsessed fitness enthusiast turns victim of Bigorexia disorder.
Thirdly, these gym supplements which are in the form of protein shakes, tablets, injections etc are causing more health problems to fintess freaks directly damaging their kidneys, immune system and most importantly pivotal organs. One such example is that of Anabolic steroids commonly available at gyms and supplement shops, they cause serious damage to heart, damage to liver, infertility and cancer.
According to study in Yale university, man who reported using body building supplements with Creatine and Androstenedione had higher chances of testicular cancer. All these supplements cause serious damage to our internal body and are sold and used across Kashmir. Rise in kidney problems among youths are because of these supplements only.
I personally know a fitness enthusiast who lost his one kideny due to intake of gym supplements and his mother transplanted her kidney to save him. This is the crises which our society is facing yet no one talks about it.
If a fitness enthusiast takes supplements for his body enhancement it is mandatory for him to drink 4-5 litres of water a day. Obviously he never follows such a strict discipline, he is happy with his Hulk Body at the cost of damage to his kidney, heart and pivitol organs.
Fourthly, Gym owners in our state are playing with the lives of youngsters as very few gym owners, trainers are with proper fintess education, all are running their business on their past experience. Let's introspect how many gym owners have nutritionist or dietrician with pyscotherpaist academic background. Very few in fact marginal people. Yet they are free to run their lucrative business. Similarly there is no checking, regulation and inspection of gym supplements shops. Majority of them sell fake and sub standard durgs. Infact there is a big nexus between the two which is further increasing their bank balances at the cost of passionate fintess freaks . Majority of gym Greeks are suffering from heart diseases, blood pressure, kidney diseases all due to this glamour .
What needs to be done?
nPerson with proper education background related to health be allowed to run or start gym centres.
nGym trainers must have proper education in this field.
nBan on entry of below 18 age people at Gyms.
nMonthly inspection and regulation of gym supplements shops.
nStrict criminal action against those who sell these banned and sub standard gym supplements.
nMandatory NOC from Govt Doctor for joining gyms.
nMandatory NOC from Govt Doctors before taking gym supplements.
If Govt or we as society will work over these solutions we will be saving our generation from health degradation. We have already lost our young hopes due to turmoil and drugs. We are left with these fitness enthusiast but their youthness is facing the health problems owing to gym supplements.
Idea of Gyming and fitness training was for better health and living which is not the case in our region JK.
I request Govt of JK, Health Minister, Director Health,Drug department to take notice of this serious problem prevailing in our society. My message to parents and our own youths is to come forward, open your conscience and save lives of your son's. Gym culture is health culture not Drug Culture which will kill them at early age.
