Kathua, May 14: Students of Kartar Public School, Barnoti today held a cleanliness rally under the 'Swatchh Bharat' campaign. A contingent of KPS NCC cadets (girls) was flagged off by the Secretary-cum-Principal Harpreet Kaur. Before that the students were administered a cleanliness pledge. Aruna Sharma, officiating CEO of Kathua graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the school in creating awareness about the 'Swatchh Bharat' campaign. Officials of the Rural Development Department, including technical assistants Sahil Sharma, Rajiv Kalgotra, Arun Lalotra, Haarish Sudan, Program Coordinator and the Block Development Officer, Barnoti O.D. Attri were also present. Speaking on this occasion, O.D. Attri, B.D.O. felt that students have a tremendous responsibility in creating awareness among masses and they are the citizens and policy makers of the future. The BDO advised the students about proper disposal of waste and avoidance of polybags. The government aims at open defecation free India by 2020. The colourful rally went through the main thoroughfares of Barnoti, cleared the places of rubbish and counseled the people of the area about the need for clean surroundings. KPS is one of the few schools that has a NCC (girls) unit. NCC instructors of the school, Rajni and Shikha supervised the rally. |
