Environmentalists have said that this has badly damaged the ecological system. Noor Din a nomad moving with his cattle annually said that earlier they had no problem during their seasonal migration but these days they find it tough as they rarely find water for their cattle during their movement. Surinder Singh a local of Jakhani said that the ponds in their area used to quench the thirst of their cattle but this pond has shrunk due to damage caused by the national highway authorties . He also said that most of the people of this areas depend on agriculture and specially depend on cattle rearing and they used this pond for the drinking of cattle and no another pond present in this area . "The highway expansion was important but the authorities should have taken measures to protect the water bodies ," said another villager. |
