Security grid around defence installations in J&K to be upgraded | | | Security grid around military camps and installations was being upgraded to prevent militants from launching attacks on the security pickets. The upgrading of the security grid in and around the Army camps after 35 army men were killed in militant attacks on their installations in Jammu and Kashmir in past two and half years. During the past nearly 30 months-from 2016 to 2018, 9 attacks were carried out by militants on army camps in the state, in which, 35 army men were killed and 40 others suffered injuries. In these attacks, 15 militants and a civilian were killed and six civilians sustained injuries. The data states 26 army men were killed and 25 others injured in five militant attacks on army camps in 2016 while three army men were killed and seven injured in a single militant attack on an army camp in 2017. This year, six army men were killed and eight others injured in three militant attacks on army camps in the state. According to official reports, 15 militants killed, 10 were killed in 2016, two in 2017 and three in 2018 while a civilian and six others were also injured in the attacks on army camps this year. All militant attacks on army camps were investigated in detail .Prima facie it was found that these attacks were carried out by militant outfits. The Government of India (GoI) had issued broad guidelines for security of "defence installations and in compliance with the said Guidelines, the defence forces have taken a number of actions including risk categorisation of military bases; appraisal and up gradation of intelligence gathering capabilities; strengthening and streamlining of the response mechanism; use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs); periodic security audit of all military installations etc. These steps were being taken to ensure that military installations and their camps and units were not prone to militant attacks. The Defence Ministry feels that the loss of 35 Armymen in militant attacks is a big loss and still the separatists were clamouring about human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. These separatists should hold militants responsible for human rights violations and derailing of peace in the entire state. As compared to the losses the Army suffered during the last over two years losses among militants have been on a limited scale. This too should be considered by the separatists while shouting loud against human rights violations. And if such violations have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir they are the result of Pakistan sponsored insurgency that has taken roots in the valley since 1989-1990. And in order to woo voters the prime Ministerial candidate Shahbaz Sharif has assured his voters that in case of his victory he would take steps to incorporate Kashmir with Pakistan. And wise voters in Pakistan know it fully well that such promises never materialize. This is gross violation of diplomatic norms that are to be the corner stone of ties between India and Pakistan. |
