Early Times Report JAMMU, July 26: GS Accounts Institute, Lower Moti Bazar, Parade, Jammu, celebrating the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas which is celebrated today every year since 1999, the day when India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. This is also an occasion that invokes feelings of both pain and pride for the families of the brave jawans who laid down their lives protecting the territory of India from intruders. The Kargil heroes a total of 522 gallant soldiers who fought against all odds in the icy heights of Kargil a remote region in the State of J and K were paid homage by the students of G.S.Accounts Institute. The Kargil War began between India and Pakistan on May 8, 1999, when Pakistani army had illegally intruded on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) which divided the Indian territory of Ladakh from the northern areas of the state. It is believed that Pakistan had been planning the operation since 1998. The war came to end on July 14, 1999 when both the countries withdrew troops from the border. |
