Huge responsibility on wide shoulders of Imran Khan | | | With the victory of Imran Khan, head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan has been saved from the dangers of military rule. And with an ace cricketer as head of establishment in Pakistan one feels that he may give a break to the traditional policy of Islamabad of straining relations with New Delhi. And the first indication has come from the new Prime Minister. Pakistan is ready to improve its ties with India and his government would like the leaders of the two sides to resolve all disputes, including the "core issue" of Kashmir, through talks, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan has, asserted that the blame game between the two neighbours, detrimental to the sub-continent, should stop. "If they take one step towards us, we will take two, but at least (we) need a start," 65-year-old Khan said at his first public address after leading his party to victory in the general elections held the other day. His party emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly elections, amid rival parties' claim of "blatant" rigging by the army in Khan's favour. Khan, who is set to be the next Pakistan PM, said Kashmir was the "core" issue between the two countries and it should be resolved through talks. "I am a person who arguably knows most people in India because of my days in cricket. We can resolve the poverty crisis in S-E Asia. The biggest problem is Kashmir," he said, suggesting that the two sides should come to the table. Well as a senior leader Imran Khan should know it that for the start of talks India has imposed certain conditions. And it is expected that Khan will motivate New Delhi to start talks by conceding New Delhi's preconditions. He has not to do anything that is not possible for a man of strong nerves. He has simply to ensure that Pakistan does not export terror to India, especially to Jammu and Kashmir. Oncer Pakistan stops export of terror India would have no other alternative but to resume dialogue with Pakistan. Another important thing he has to follow if he wants to hold talks with India and that Imran Khan's changed attitude. He should never nurse feelings that Kashmir is life-line for Pakistan. And once he gives up this feeling India would welcome talks for resolving various issues. What India expects is the way Imran Khan gives a break to the old policies followed by his predecessors. He should, as head of Pakistan Government, never allow Islamabad or its Army to provide military, moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiri separatists. These are some of the suggestions worth Imran Khan's consideration. Once he starts following the line drawn by his predecessors he may not be able to motivate New Delhi to resume talks. |
