Early Times Report JAMMU, July 27: The medical interns have sought intervention of Governor NN Vohra to enhance the stipend paid to them in view of increasing inflation rate. "Medical interns perform various duties. It entails marathon shifts, night duties, and round the clock availability. But unfortunately medical interns aren't paid commensurate with the work they do and are highly underpaid. This has led to rising displeasure and resentment among them. Medical interns in our state are paid meagre amount of stipend of 4800/= monthly since 1990. This amount is substantially less than the other states of our country like West Bengal(21,000/-),Chattisgarh (20,000/-),Kerala(20,000/-) and UP(18,000/-) This amount is miserably less for medical interns to bear their daily expenses", they said, in a memorandum submitted to Governor. They appealed governor to treat with modicum of respect and that will reflect through the enhancement in their stipend. |
