NPP demands probe in IHHL scheme scams | | | Early Times Report udhampur, July 27: Alleging large scale embezzlements in the implementation of IHHL scheme under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBM) in District Udhampur, Shankar Dass, Provincial Secretary Panthers Party and member Rashtriya Kissan Sangathan today called for a high level enquiry into the same. He said that while the govt had announced a fixed amount of Rs. 12000 to be paid to each household in BPL category for the construction of individual household latrines, the people in remote and far flung areas were forced to construct the same at their own expense. He said that RTI replies had further indicated that funds had been withdrawn by the govt functionaries in various blocks including Majalta, Ramnagar and Ghordi under the said scheme but the proposed beneficiaries were deprived of the same in thousands of cases. He was addressing a press conference in Jammu today. Displaying the copies of reply to RTI application before media, Shankar Dass said that there were cases in which payments had been withdrawn twice and even thrice in the name of same beneficiary without the money having actually been released in his favour. He said that with huge presume mounted upon the people to construct such latrines at their own cost in the far flung areas, the poorest and the ailing were being feeling extremely harassed and tortured. He said that the circular issued by the District Administration directing cancelation of ration cards and power and water connections of those without IHHL had multiplied the woes of the poorest sections inhabiting the villages. |
