Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 27: The construction work on girls' hostel, approved about two years ago under centrally sponsored scheme at Plangarh in Thanamandi tehsil, is going on snail place. Funded by the union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), 68 hostels are being built in the state by the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) with PWD (R&B) being the executing agency.
According to official sources out of 68 hostels 24 are being built in Jammu region and few among them are in the final stage including one at Planghar. Construction cost of the hostel is about Rs 2.82 crores and will be of 100 bedded capacity and once made operational would prove a boon for delivery of quality education to the girl students of Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs). According to official sources a financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per child would be spent each month on food and accommodation alone and all the hostels in the state would be made functional before July 2019. Recently MA Asad, DDC had a detailed inspection of on-going major development projects in the area along with a team of concerned district officers. He also inspected the on-going work of the girl's hostel at Planghar and Tribal Hostel (for girls ) at Mera Nagrota. After detailed discussions with the concerned officials on the spot, DDC passed directions to the authorities to complete the hostel on or before November 30. The main objective of the Scheme is to make Secondary and Senior Secondary education accessible to a larger number of girl students. About 50% girl students in the age group of 14-18 years studying in classes 9th & 12th & belonging to SC, ST, OBC, Minority communities and BPL families and 50% students passing out of KGBV will be given admission in the hostels as per the scheme.
