Security beefed-up in valley after fresh militant attacks | CASO in Lal Chowk following inputs on presence of militants | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, July 27: The authorities beefed up security here in Srinagar and all other major towns of the valley following fresh militant attacks on security forces. Sources told ET that security has been tightened across the South and North Kashmir especially in Srinagar city in view of Tuesday's attack. A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man was killed after suspected militants attacked a force party near Fire and Emergency Services department in Batamaloo area of Kashmir capital Srinagar. Similarly several security men were injured in a grenade attack by suspected militants at South Kashmir's Bijbehara district. On Friday it was also reported that a bank guard and a civilian were injured after unknown gunmen opened fire after forcing their entry inside a bank branch in south Kashmir's Kulgam district. Witnesses told ET that Police and CRPF men were seen frisking the vehicles, particularly LMVs. They were also checking the documents of motor bikes. The vehicles entering into Srinagar through different entry points were also being thoroughly checked. Meanwhile sources told early times that in view of the recent attacks, the state government's home department headed by Governor NN Vohara has asked all the security forces to remain vigilant while performing their duties. Sources said that the authorities in security agencies of JK have also been asked to deploy additional forces in key areas and remain extra-vigilant in the state especially in Jammu and Srinagar city. Meanwhile Security forces on Friday launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar city. An eye witness said that forces' personnel comprising the state police and the CRPF were deployed on high-rise buildings between the historic Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) and Koker Bazar area. CRPF personnel and policemen were searching the shops and the buildings in the area. Traffic movement remained suspended between the clock tower and Amira Kadal. An official said that the CASO was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in the area. |
