Early Times Report reasi, Aug 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) concluded campaign on breastfeeding. During the campaign various programmes were organized exclusively on breastfeeding at Malad, Dera Baba Banda Bahadur, Chamba and Gran Morh villages of Reasi district in which large number of women, the officials from ICDS Department, Health Department and Education Department of the district enthusiastically participated. The programme was organized under the guidance of Associate Director Extension (ADE) and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr R K Arora. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi Dr Banarsi Lal gave a detail view on World Breastfeeding Week and said that breast milk is the foundation for healthy mind and body. He added that colostrums, the first form of milk is very essential for the growth of the baby and it protects the baby from various ailments. He said that breast milk is the best food for the babies which provides not only the required nutrients but also protects the body from various infections. He further said that breast milk helps to develop the immune system among the babies and added that breastfeeding safeguards the babies from jaundice, pneumonia, cholera, diarrhoea, obesity, allergy, cancer etc. Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist said that breastfeeding helps in the initial development of baby's brain and helps to be successful in the school. He also said that breast feeding helps the women to recover faster after childbirth and reduces the risk of diabetes, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and heart diseases. |
