Death of Six year old exposes bankruptcy of Healthcare system | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, Aug 11: Death of a six year old child in Udhampur district has brought to the fore the pathetic condition of health services in the state, especially in the peripheral areas. As per eye witness account, a 6 year old child was seriously injured after he fell from the roof top. Family members took him to District Hospital Udhampur, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. But bankruptcy of the system played a major role in the death of the child identified as Mohit Kumar son Ashok Kumar resident of Sira Mud Latti district Udhampur as he was denied timely treatment at two health institutions of the health department. According to reports, when the child fell down from the roof, his family members brought him to PHC Sudh Mahadev , but due to absence of doctor, they had to carry their injured child to the Community Health Center Chenani, where no treatment was provided to him and the family was advised to evacuate the child to DH Udhampur. They were not even provided an ambulance and the family had to arrange a transport to carry the child to Udhampur. However, this delay caused the injured child his life and he died before he could be taken to District Hospital Udhampur. The family of the deceased child alleged that inadequate facilities at CHC Chenani and absence of doctor at PHC Sudh Mahadev costed them the life of their child. |
