Continuous rains, landslides may delay road widening projects | | | Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report Udhampur, Aug 14: The company 'Gammon Engineers , Contractors Pvt Ltd and other locals contractors engaged in road widening projects on Jammu-Srinagar national highway have suffered losses due to continuous rains and landslides triggered by the heavy rains. Apart from this the landslides and heavy rains have further delayed the completion of projects thereby affecting the deadlines. A massive landslide from the hill side occurred on August 13 between km 71+140 to 280 and another place mord which km75/800/75/900 hill side occurred due to heavy rainfall on August 12 , 13 and 14 thereby blocking the newly constructed road. All the earth moving machinery and manpower were pressed into action for restoring the traffic without much delay by the executing agency-Gammon Engineers and Contractors Pvt Ltd. However, the traffic without much delay was restored by diverting traffic to the existing road which was into work for strengthening of the existing road. The Project Manager (PM) of the company when contacted confirmed that once the slide is cleared from the newly constructed road, the traffic will be restored to new road and accordingly the works for strengthening of the existing road shall be taken up. He also informed that the landslide and heavy rains had wasted precious time and consequently the completion time of the project will also be affected. |
