Udhampur school uses students for labour | | | Ashwani Sharma
Early Times Report
Udhampur, Aug 16: In brazen violation of norms by the Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir can be better judged from the fact that children studying in government schools are being used for labour works. For example, Government High School Dhandal falling in zone Gordhi in Udhampur district has crossed all the limits of violation of rules. A video has gone viral showing boys of this school carrying heavy gunny bags of ration from a tractor trolley to the school. The authorities, as of now, have not uttered even a word in this regard nor has any action been taken against the teachers who force the students for ferrying ration bags. Sources informed that funds are there in the schools for all works but these funds are siphoned off by the school authorities. Hence, the labour work is done by the children. Surinder Singh, a local resident, told this reporter that the teachers and other employees at government institutions "get thick bundles of salaries, but still they get the menial works done in these institutions by the students." He called such acts as shameful and asked why peons and other staff can't be used for such works. Locals have asked the Education Department authorities to take strict action against the erring teachers. |
