8/24/2018 10:25:24 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 24: The State High Court today directed Gulmarg Development Authority to provide details of the persons who are continuing with occupation of the state land in the Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort, despite expiry of lease.
Hearing A public Interest Litigation, a division bench of the court also directed the GDA to provide the particulars and details of land by giving them exact boundaries which has been leased out to private persons in the world famous tourist resort in north Kashmir.
It also asked GDA to give the period of the leases as well as details of persons who are occupying land beyond the land which was leased out to them.
"These details be filed after physical inspection of the land," the court added.
The high court has time and again underlined that it was a duty of all the functionaries of the State responsible and entrusted with the assignment of maintaining the glory and beauty of the world famous tourist resort, Gulmarg, to maintain its standard in all its forms.
"It is a duty cast on all the functionaries of the State responsible and entrusted with the assignment of maintaining the glory and beauty of the world famous tourist resort, Gulmarg, to maintain its standard in all its forms and keep on informing this court about any type of progress made in that direction, as this Court is monitoring the progress and that can be had only by having a firsthand account of the events taking place around the subject matter," the court had said, reiterating that "any sort of construction taking place, any encroachment taking place, or any other activity of which a note has been taken earlier by this court from time to time is to be reported to this court with utmost dispatch, without waiting for any specific direction in this behalf."
The PIL was filed in 2012 by a person named Mohammad Rafiq Zargar, seeking directions for protection of the fragile environment of Gulmarg.
