9/5/2018 9:44:06 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5:
The members of Yogi and Boria community called on State Backward Commission Members, Prof. Virender Gupta and Adv. Onkar Seth at Jammu.
They expressed their gratitude and thanks to the Commission for taking keen interest in taking up their long pending issue of their inclusion in Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. They, in particular, praised the present Chairman of the Commission, Jeet Lal Gupta, who acknowledged the genuineness of the case of Yogi and Boria communities and prepared the case in consultations with the members of the Commission and submitted the same to the government with favourable recommendation. The members of the communities were greatly obliged to Prof. Virender Gupta and Adv. Onkar Seth for pursuing their case vigorously.
Yogi Community President Gyan Chand accompanied by its members Tarsem Chand, Girdhari Lal, Bhadur Singh, Des Raj, Baba Jita, Angrez Chand, Sukhdev Kumar, Shinda Pal and Boria Community President Sunita Mehra alongwith members Mohan Lal, Ram Chand, Pinki Devi were among the persons who called upon the member.
The Jogi/Yogi/Nath community was declared as one of the backward classes by the Mandal Commission and they have population of 40,000 to 50,000 in the state. The people of Boria/Bouria/Bowaria community are working as manual labourer in the vegetable/fruits mandies of the state and put up in extremely poor and unhygienic conditions. Both these communities were struggling for their inclusion in the Backward Classes since 1996, but due to insensitive attitude and slackness on the part of the authorities, their grievances were not addressed.
Prof. Virender Gupta and Adv. Onkar Seth assured those called on them that the Commission and they in person shall put their efforts to persuade the Government for issuing the order about the inclusion of their communities in the Other Backward Communities.
