9/5/2018 9:59:55 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by Bar Association Doda through its president seeking directions to Union of India and J&K State for taking the effective and immediate steps for preventing road traffic accidents across the state and especially in Chenab Valley, a Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta after hearing Adv Syed Asim Hashmi for the PIL observed that counsel for the petitioner, however, submits that the ambulances, which are presently deployed are not equipped with the life saving equipment and paramedical staff.
Division Bench observed that issue was very serious and directed Chief Secretary to file affidavit on this issue within two weeks.DB after considering the nature of the affidavit filed by the Inspector General of Police, J&K Traffic, deemed it appropriate and necessary to incorporate National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as a party respondent in the present case and directed Registry to issue notice to NHAI.
DB granted two weeks' time to counsel for the petitioner who seeks time to assist the Court on a legal issue, as to whether in case of repeated offences with regard to over-speeding, over-loading and other traffic violations by the drivers, their vehicles could be seized and their licences revoked for bringing about discipline among them.
