SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Urging parents to stress on propagating value-based education among children, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today advised the parent community to introspect within themselves if children show lack of adequate respect towards them. The Advisor expressed these views during a "Grandparents day" function organized by Private Educational Institute, here at SKICC. Secretary JK Board of School Education Farooq Peer, Joint Director School Board of Education Central Abid Hussain, Principal, Burn Hall Sabestian Nagathugal, teachers, students, parents and grandparents of students were present in the function. Deliberating on the topic, the Advisor said if children are not showing the kind of respect we expect from them, we must introspect ourselves and see where we failed to inculcate these values in them. Ganai said parents need to understand the dynamics of modern society as the world has changed into a global village and no one can remain insulated and isolated from what is happening in other parts of the world. However, it does not give us leverage from shying away from giving good values to our children. Highlighting the role of a teacher, the Advisor said that after parents, it is the teacher whose behaviour greatly affects the psyche of a student. Emphasizing on the need to improve the quality of education, Ganai said it can only happen when teachers participate in various forms of capacity building exercises, and new books on modern sciences are introduced in our education system. In the end, the Advisor gave away trophies and cash awards to the meritorious students who had passed higher secondary exams with top positions in the State.
