| 8 yrs on, no water flows in Dhamak Kul | | |  Arun Jasrotia

Udhampur, Sept 17: The construction work on a Kul (canal) in Dhamak Village in Ramnagar tehsil was started eight years ago. However, till date water has not flown in the canal much to the dismay of the farmers who had pinned their hopes on the cannal.
Informed sources said that an expenditure of Rs 42.04 lakh was incurred on the canal without results.
They alleged that the money was not utilized properly. "The canal has not been constructed properly. There are gaps and cracks. In rainy season the water from the canal enters houses," they said adding the matter was taken up with the Irrigation and Flood Control Department repeatedly without results.
The locals have sought immediate remedial measures to make the canal operational. They have also sought an enquiry into the `misuse' of funds. |
