Searches of vehicles, frisking of pedestrians intensifies | | | Srinagar, Oct 6: Two days ahead of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polling, security forces have intensified frisking of pedestrian and searching vehicles in summer capital, Srinagar, where two National Conference (NC) workers were killed by gunmen in the old city on Friday. Security forces have established naka checking at several places in the city, where sniffer dogs are being used to search the vehicles while passengers are being allowed to move only after their identity cards are checked. Despite security forces on high alert on the eve of UBL polls, killing of two NC workers by unidentified gunmen in the old city in broadday light yesterday, leaders of different political parties have questioned the security arrangements for free, fair and peaceful polls on October 8, when separatists had called for a general strike. The NC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) besides Communist Party of India (M) have already announced boycott of polls in the state. The Governor administration has recently announced that additional 400 companies would be deployed to strengthen the security grid and provide safe and secure environment to contesting candidates and voters in the state. |
