Tragic road accident claims 21 lives, 17 injured

RAMBAN, Oct 6: Atleast 21 passengers were killed and fifteen other were injured in a tragic road accident at Kela Morh area of district Ramban, here today.
The mini-bus (matador) bearing registration no. JK19-1593 was on the way from Banihal to Ramban skidded off from the road and fall into deep gorge of 200 feet when driver lost control over the vehicle.
After getting information officers and officials from district administration along with police and civil QRT besides locals rushed at accident spot and started rescue operation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban Showkat Aijaz Bhat and and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban Anita Sharma are at accident site to get the first hand information about the incident.
DC Ramban informed that government has sanctioned Rs, 5 Lakh for family of each deceased and fifty thousand for injured passengers; he assured all possible support to the injured from the administration.
He was briefed by the doctors attending to the injured about their health condition and the treatment being provided to them. He directed the hospital administration to extend best-possible treatment to those injured in the accident and provide specialized treatment to those injured seriously.
While talking to the media persons, DC lauded the efforts of Red Cross QRT, police, general public and Army for saving precious lives of accidents victims and launching a massive rescue operation. He also sanctioned fifty thousand rupees in favour of QRT for procurement of rescue operation equipments and material. 12 seriously injured passengers were air lifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for specialized treatment and five passengers were admitted in District Hospital Ramban while one was referred to Bone and Joint Hospital Joint Hospital Srinagar.
DC informed that 14 ambulances and 4 helicopters of State government and Air Force besides other man and machineries had deployed on the rescue operations.
The deceased persons have been identified as Mashqoor Ahmed Giri son of Late Mohd Ayoub Giri resident of Bankoot Banihal, Mohd Shafi Rather son of Gh Hussan Rather resident of Doligam Banihal, Sunil Singh son of Rattan Singh resident of Digdool Ramban, Mohd Irfaan son of Mohd Suliman resident of Panthyal Ramban, Manzoor Ahmed son of Amdullah Bhat resident of Senabathi Gugrara Ukheral, Nayeem Ahmed son of Mohd Yaseen Ganie resident of Maligam Ukheral, Rukshanda daughter of Mohd Rafiq Wani resident of Chanjloo Banihal ,Farheen daughter of Mohd Rafiq Wani resident of Chanjloo Banihal ,Rayaz Ahmed Khan son of Ab Rasheed Khan resident of Tethar Banihal, Mohd Iqbal Shah son of Noor Din Shah resident of Chakka Rajgarh, Mohd Ramzan Wani son of Momjau Wani resident of Doligam Banihal, Mustaq Ahmed Ganie son of Mohd Ramzan Ganie resident of Doligam Balihal, Rashma daughter of Ismail Gouger resident of Amkoot Banihal, Tanveer Ahmed Baigh son of Mohd Afzal Baigh resident of Kaskoot Banihal, Kajal Devi daughter of Tarith Singh resident of Marog Ramban, Ramtullah Rather son of Ab Gani Rather resident of Tantarypora Banihal (Driver), Mudasir Ahmed Mir son of Ab Jabber Mir resident of Bankoot Banihal, Mohd Yousef Kumar son of Amdullah Kumar resident of Darshipor, Mohd Iqbal son of Fateh Mohd resident of Khari and Utkaranth Mangotra son of Surash Mangotra resident of Udhampur besides one unidentified male.
While the injured persons have been identified as Abdul Quyoom son of Mohd Sultan resident of Dhardhei Ramsoo, Daman Deep son of Ashok Singh resident of Marog, Majid Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid resident of Alinbas (Conductor), Shabir Ahmed Beig son of Ahmed Beigh resident of Lamber Banihal, Showket Hussain son of Manzoor Hussain resident of Samba, Jaffer Ali son of Abdul Ali resident of Danar Nowgam Banihal, Abdul Ahad son of unknown resident of Zenihal Banihal, Mohd Shareef son of Shams Din resident of Wagan Chamalwass, Mohd Ismail son of Nizam Din resident of Chamalwass, Rabia daughter of Mohd Rafi resident of Sonwari, Bashir Ahmed son of Mehroom Mir Ali resident of Chamalwass, Rajesh Kumar son of Harbans Lal resident of Ramsoo, Raees Ahmed Tantary son of Ghulam Rassol Tantary resident of Banigam and Mohd Rafiq son of Habibulllah resident of Chanjloo Banihal besides two unknown persons.
Meantime, Chief Education Officer (ECO), Ramban, A H Fani, and other staff members of Education department were expressed grief over the said demise of teachers Mudasar Mir of Banihal in this tragic road accident. CEO said that it is very unfortunate that in a tragic accident at Ramban a number of precious lives were lost. Particularly some students of Higher Secondary School, Degree College Ramban and one of our teacher lost his life while travelling to Ramban to attend training programme.
"Being a district head of education department I extend my sorrowful condolences on the behalf of department to the bereaved families of my deceased teacher and students and May Allah rest their souls in heaven" CEO added.
