Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 26: Public Opinion Forum (POF) today celebrated 72nd accession day at Tawi Bridge. The POF cut 72 kilograms of 'Ladoo' and remembered the great Maharajas of Jammu and Kashmir with special focus of Maharaja Hari Singh and his contributions in making part of the Indian Union. Historians, writers, educationists and intellectuals besides the politicians in their brief addresses highlighted the importance of the day amidst recollection of contributions and sacrifices of Maharaja Hari Singh in expanding the boundaries of the State. The event started with garlanding of Maharaja Hari Singh statute followed by the hoisting National flag, the singing of patriotic songs and paying floral tributes to the Maharaja's Statue. Among the prominent persons who attended the Accession Day function were grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, Vikramaditya Singh and former Minister, founder chairman, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, Lal Singh and great grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, Ranvijay Singh, who cut the 72 kg Ladoo along with president POF, Parveen Sharma, general secretary, Dr Gopal Parthasarthy and other members of the Forum. National Panthers Party president and former Minister, Harsh Dev Singh also joined the celebrations and congratulated the POF for the initiative. Speaking on the occasion, president of POF, Parveen Sharma, who is also Chairman of Citizen's Cooperative Bank Ltd., highlighted the importance of celebrating the Accession Day. He threw light on a couple of historical aspects linked with the Accession of J&K with Union of India. Earlier, member of the POF, Ravi Kant welcomed the special guests and other distinguished gathering. Among other speakers who spoke on the Accession Day were Major General (Retd), S K Sharma, Dr Satdev Gupta, Prof Vijay Sharma and Capt (Retd) Anil Gaur.
