Six independent members of MC Bishnah boycott poll process for Prez, VP 11/14/2018 9:53:31 PM Early Times Report Bishnah, Nov 14: Six independent members of Municipal Committee (MC) Bishnah, who contested the recently held Urban Local Bodies polls on a joint platform of Bishnah Vikas Manch (BVM) have boycotted the election process conducted for the post of president and vice president in the MC Bishnah. Speaking to media persons outside the office of the MC Bishnah, Sunil Sharma, president of the BVM said that the election was being conducted in violation of the rules. He said that the six elected ward members had submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu and the Government to conduct elections in accordance with the procedure prescribed in SRO 25 of 2005 but the administration was hell bent upon giving an edge to a particular political party by violating the said SRO issued by the Government in 2005. Sharma alleged that rule 6 (2) and rule 6 (5) were grossly violated by the Deputy Commissioner as the nomination forms had to be received three clear days in advance from the day of elections but in the case of MC Bishnah the nomination forms were received just one day prior to the election day. Several members of BVM alleged that the election machinery was following the diktats of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) to violate SRO 25 of 2005. Members of the BVM said that the leaders of the BJP were successful in getting one ward member who had won elections with the support of BVM to defect and join the BJP by offering him to become president of the MC Bishnah. President of the BVM further said that the BJP should have respected the mandate of the residents of Bishnah. He further said that it is due to the conduct of the local leaders of the BJP in Bishnah that the party had to face a humiliating defeat in the last Legislative Assembly elections. Sharma informed that the decision to boycott the elections for the post of president and vice president was taken by the Ward Members/ Councilors in a meeting attended by large number of local residents of Bishnah.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
