IMS organises faculty development programme | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 5 The Institute of Management Sciences organized Faculty Development Programme for Faculty of the institute today in the campus. The Resource person was Prof. B.B. Goyal, University Business School, Punjab University, Chandigarh. At the outset, Prof. S. K. Gupta extended a very warm welcome to Prof. B. B. Goyal for visiting our institute and be a part of this programme. Prof. Goyal, while speaking on the occasion, discussed the role of teachers as educational entrepreneurs in the present era. He was of the view that now-a-days entrepreneurship has turned into one of the most significant educational activities. Entrepreneurship education is a combination of Science and Art. He explained that its Science part relates to functional skills required for setting a business while the art related part is concerned with creative aspects of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship education seeks to provide students with the more knowledge, skills and motivation to encourage entrepreneurial success in a variety of settings. Prof. Goyal further discussed that entrepreneurship education focuses on the development of skills or attributes that enable the realization of opportunity, whereas management education focuses on the best way to operate existing hierarchies. He concluded his discussion by underlining certain characteristics of entrepreneurial education as it helps potential entrepreneurs to identify and pursue opportunities. He summed up his discussion by emphasizing that teacher as an entrepreneur can more focus on Innovations, Leadership, Organizational Building function, Creation of Values for students by exploiting untapped opportunities. In the second part of the programme, Prof. J. R. Dhotra and Prof. S. K. Gupta dealt with the concept of Research Methodology and processing of research data. Prof. Dhotra was of the view that Research is primarily concerned with production of knowledge. He further discussed that it is the process of discovering the unknown and re discovering the known. He summed up his discussion by stressing on the broad objectives of research that is to explore, to describe, to diagnose and to establish relationship. The last session of the programme was conducted by Prof. S.K. Gupta, Dean Academics of the institute, who discussed in detail the processing of data. He explained that the statistical data collected by various techniques is just raw data. Before analysis, the data need to be arranged in proper form by using the following techniques viz. Editing of data, Coding of data, Classification and Tabulation of data. He summed up his discussion by concluding that classification is nothing but the bifurcation of available data in groups and sub groups. He advised all the Faculty colleagues that every possible efforts should be made for the promotion of quality research, teaching and education for a better tomorrow for all the stakeholders.
