Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 5: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has said that in a democratic country, ensuring freedom of speech, is the responsibility of the government and in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor led state government must ensure it. Dr Sharma was reacting to the incessant discrimination with Early Times by State Information Department in the distribution of advertisement, with an aim to muzzle its free voice. Lauding the role of Early Times, Senior Congress leader said that if a newspaper has been raising the issues of a particular region and giving voice to voiceless, then instead of addressing such issues, if the government was trying to muzzle its voice by shrinking advertisements, then it was totally against ethics. Dr Sharma further rued that if the state government or the Information department has been adopting such tactics against Early Times, then it would be the most unfortunate part in a democratic country. "We want to ask the Governor led state government that it is his responsibility to ensure the freedom of press by ensuring proper distribution of advertisement to Early Times", Dr. Sharma reiterated. |
