SMI protests against police, civil admn, alleges bungling in panchayat polls | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 5: The Social Movement of India (SMI) held a protest rally against the J&K Police and Civil Administration near Press Club of Jammu alleging large scale bungling in the election of Sapranch of Bomal Sargampur, Tehsil Jourian Jammu. The protesters also alleged over the life threat to the only Schedule Cast candidate Sunita Devi along with the whole Schedule Caste community living in Village Bomal. Addressing the media, Ashok Kumar Bastora, an activist said that last month the election of Sarpanch was conducted at Bomal Sargampur, Tehsil Jourian. The ward was reserved for ladies only, 3 ladies from Rajput community and one lady from SC were contesting for the same. He added that as the voting was in its last phase and Sunita was leading the votes. Some members from Rajput community marched with arms and ammunition and threatened the police and polling staff on the spot. Thereafter, the election staff left the spot without naming Sunita as a winning candidate. He alleged that some members of Rajput community are threatening the SC community by entering their houses and intimidating them with dire consequences. Furthermore no legal action has been taken by police or the civil administration against the culprits. Sunita Devi and her husband informed that a deputation of about 200 persons form SC community from her village had met SSP Jammu, DC Jammu, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Chief Electoral Officer J&K a few days ago to file a detailed complaint in this regard. |
