Traders raise banner of revolt against Pak stooges | 'Frequent strikes have ruined Kashmir's economy' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 7: The traders in Kashmir Valley have raised a banner of revolt against the separatists, who call for frequent shutdowns and strikes to appease their bosses sitting across the Line of Control. Addressing a news conference in Srinagar on Thursday vice-president of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr A M Mir said business community in the Valley has been suffering huge losses since the floods of 2014 and a "congenial atmosphere" was needed for trade. "Our economy is on the brink of getting finished as trade and commerce has taken a backseat domestic and international market pressures coupled with the situation at home has broken our back. We need an alternative to frequent strikes as this will infuse some life into the businesses," Mir said. It may be recalled that Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier this week had arrested the president of Kashmir Economic Alliance Yaseen Khan for orchestrating the protest of traders against the alleged human rights violations in Kashmir. An insider told Early Times that leaders of the trade bodies are under pressure from most businessmen to tell the separatists that they don't want to follow their calls and they are not interested in "hartal politics" anymore. "Many traders don't recognize the so-called leaders as their representatives and don't want them to take the decisions on their behalf," the insider added. An analyst said that separatists know that hartal and the strikes are the only ways to make their bosses believe that "pot is boiling" and they are calling the shots. "It has been observed in the recent past that the strike calls given by the separatists have not evoked much response as people don't pay much heed towards their calls," he added. The analyst said that KCCI coming out in open against the separatists is a signal to them that their writ cannot prevail anymore and they cannot just selling dreams to the people. "Today KCCI has taken the separatists head on, tomorrow others will also join them and tell these Pak stooges that they should shut their shops and let people of Kashmir live in peace," the analyst added. He said that the separatists are trying to build the momentum in the Valley ahead of January 20, when petitions challenging the legal validity of the Article 35-A would come up for hearing in the Supreme Court. "They (Pak agents) want uncertainty to prevail even in the winters so that they could up the ante in the summer months and put Kashmir on fire ahead of the scheduled Assembly and Parliamentary polls next year," he added. |
