Hakla reiterates demand of political reservation for Gujjars-Bakkarwals | | |
Early Times Report POONCH, Dec 10: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi, prominent Gujjar leader, today appealed to the Governor to issue ordinance for reservation of Assembly as well as Lok Sabha segments for Gujjar and Bakkarwal community in the state. Hakla in a statement issued here today said the political reservation was compulsory for the Gujjars and Bakkarwals of J&K who have been already given scheduled tribe status by government of India in the year 1991. Poonchi said that after recognizing the backwardness of Gujjars and Bakkarwals of J&K, the Government of India granted scheduled tribe status to Gujjars and Bakkarwals under ordinance No 3 of 1991 under article 342 of constitution of India on April 19, 1991. He said that as far as the political and administrative setup of the state is concerned there should have been reservation of assembly as well as Lok Sabha segments for Gujjars and Bakkarwals in J&K state under the norms of Scheduled Tribe status but it did not happen in the state of J&K which resulted in their utter political, social and economical backwardness. |
