JKAACL showcases rich cultural programme | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Dec 10: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Sub Office Kathua organized a Music and Dance programme at Rajiv Gandhi College of Education, Kathua. Anu Dogra, Chairperson Rajiv Gandhi College of Education, Kathua was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Pankaj Dogra, Eminent Educationist of Kathua was the guest of honor. Speaking of the occasion, Anu Dogra appreciated the role of culture and tradition showcased by JKAACL, sub office Kathua. She quoted that nowhere on this earth one can find the diversity of culture which we have in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Everyone should come forward for the preservation of the culture of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and all have to take it as a priority and responsibility to nurture the values of our culture and tradition. The programme was started with the mesmerizing performance of Dogri song sung by Raju and Suman Lata which was followed by the Geetru performance by Bansi Lal and party. Janak Raj and party added some flavors of culture but the treat of the day was 'Hern' which was presented with the scintillating performance of C.D. Magotra and party in which a group of performers with Hern (Deer) as its central character supported by a group of folk dancers in traditional attire, local drum players and few prominent characters like 'Raja', 'Wazir', 'Sadhu', and a caretaker of Hern move in a carnival and this mobile traditional theatre moves from house to house covering the entire village. Singing and dancing, this group of performers reflects upon the socio, economic and political state of the area through small satirical acts. The Raja represents the Ruler; the Wazir represents the bureaucracy, and the co-dancers, the public and there begins the caricature of the rule, the wisdom behind and the sufferings of the common-man. Two actors wearing a mask of the deer, through their body language, create interesting rhythmic moves. The traditional play moves at the will of the movement of 'Hern'. The change of the postures of the Hern gives new twists to the story line and all performers judiciously follow that. C D Magotra himself played as King and made interesting comments on the contemporary socio-economic and political status of the State which was highly applauded and appreciated by the audiences. Earlier, Sanjeev Gupta SOCA, JKAACL Kathua while addressing the august gathering stated that the Sub office Kathua is meant for the promotion of art, culture and languages in district Kathua. He said that since last several months one can easily find the way Sub-office Kathua successfully arranging the programmes aimed at the promotion of our culture and tradition. Further he also appealed to all the artists who are doing exceptional well to come forward and approach JKAACL's Sub Office Kathua for the showcasing of their talent and thanked the people of district Kathua for the successful conduct of the programme. |
