Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 18: Promising Vidit Gawri today retained the 6-Ball Snooker title in the State Billiards and Snooker Championships held under the banner of J&K Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA) at Billiards Hall, MA Stadium, here. For second consecutive title trophy in short form of Snooker event, Vidit defeated Abhishek Pathania 5-2 (30-11, 31-14, 49-09, 38-17, 35-38, 29-31, 54-22)in best of nine frame game. Soon after the 6-Red Ball Snooker final decided, there was prize distribution function of near a month-long championships in different age groups and events at the Billiards Hall this afternoon. Secretary, J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), Dr Naseem Choudhary was the chief guest in the valedictory function, who presented the title trophies amidst appreciation for the Association in making the domestic competitions a regular feature. However, he suggested expansion and introduction of the game to other districts so as to make the cue sport more popular and competitive. He assured improved facilities at the Billiards Hall in the months to come. Earlier, chairman of the Association, Siddharth Sharma presented a detailed report the competition and highlighted the difficulties being faced by the players and the JKBSA as well in view of shortage of skilled manpower and aging infrastructure. General secretary of the Association, Vishal Abrol told the visiting guest that JKBSA was the only sports body in the state which has its office bearers from and among the players only. Prominent among others present were guest of honour, Chief Sports Officer JKSSC, Abdul Qayoom, President JKBSA, Sanjeev Gupta, senior vice president JKBSA, Jaideep Manocha, vice president JKBSA, Nikhil Kapahi, vice president Kashmir, Umer Himayun, treasurer JKBSA, Suhail Khalid and members, Gurjeev Singh, Ishan Chaudhary, Abhinav Anand and Harpreet Oberoi. Ishuk Chaudhary was organising secretary of the championship. |
