Govt nod to prosecute 2 LeT militants in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 10: The State government has accorded sanction to prosecute two Lashker-e-Tioba militants, one them absconding, in connection for attempt to kill security forces personnel in November 2017.
on 15 November 2017, Police Station Qazigund received a docket from Naka incharge Head Constable to the effect that he alongwith IRP personnel 18th Bn. E-Coy posted at Railway Station, Qazigund were performing Naka duty at Check-Budwani Railway Road and during Naka duty, vehicles were being searched and while searching, a Sumo vehicle a passenger with intent to kill, attempted to open fire upon the Police Party with his illegally acquired weapon. However, Police Party succeeded to overcome the situation and arrested him tactfully.
While searching the accused, huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the possession of accused which was covered by him with a blanket to be used for militant activities. On conducting preliminary enquiry, as per police, he disclosed his name as Shams-ul Waqar alias Piyara S/o Mohd Amin Teeli of Ganjipora.
Police said a case (FIR No. 314/2017) under section 307, RPC, 7/25,7/27 Arms Act, 13, 16, 18, 20,38, 39 ULA(P) Act came to be registered in Police Station, Qazigund.
During the course of investigation, Investigation officer prepared site plan of place of occurrence and the seizure memo of recovered arms and ammunition was prepared. Seizure memo of vehicle Sumo was also prepared. Statement of the accused Shams-ul-Waqar alias Piyara S/o Mohd Amin Teeli of Ganjipora, an active militant of LeT was recorded wherein he disclosed that he had joined the outfit in 2016 and had played a vital part in different militant activities especially at Mirbazar, Bonigam, Halnoo Kund with his militant associates.
The investigation, as per police also revealed that Amir Hussain Mir of Shopian escaped and continues to be absconding. The government has accorded sanction to prosecute the duo under section 13, 18, 20 and 38 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967.
