After ET intervention industries announce local vacancies | | | Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report Udhampur, Jan 20: The news seeking local vacancies in industries published by Early Times last week has forced the factory owners to open their doors for locals. Advertisement about 28 local persons required in a cement factory here today appeared in a national Hindi daily wherein eligibility criteria included someone who is local. However, sources informed that Goods and Services Tax (GST) refunds of the industry have been blocked due to lack of local employment and this very advertisement is only a face saving exercise as the employed locals will be shown doors once the GST refunds is secured. "This is a cruel joke with the unemployed people of this area when the industries use them for their own purpose and then dump or harass them afterwards. The authorities should take strict note of this," sources maintained However, sources further informed that when inspection staff of the concerned authorities plans surprise raid at these industries to check if labour laws are being followed , some elements in the concerned authorities alert these industries who remain prepared and the inspecting team has to return empty handed. Sources further inform that approximately one year ago locals raised the voice against the cement industries at Battel Ballian Udhampur due to increased pollution level and some other issues, the then DC constituted a committee of 11 members ( one senior officer of every department has been involved) but nothing has been done When contacted DC Udhampur Ravinder Kumar said: " I will look into the matter and constitute a team to check these violations." |
