Jammu, Jan 20: Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi will sponsor upcoming two-day national Conference on Women Empowerment through Agro-Entrepr-eneurships for Security (WE-2019) which is being organized by SIDAVES (Society for Integrated Development of Agriculture, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences) in association with SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST- Kashmir on 07-08 February 2019 at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, Chatha. The said Conference will mark lead lectures, research papers, innovations and success stories related to women involvement and empowerment particularly with respect to agriculture, animal husbandry and social sciences. Approximately, 400 participants from all over the country are expected to contribute in the two-day conference deliberations. Prof. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu and Chief Patron of the Conference told that major factors that contribute to women empowerment are their education, social equity and status, improved health, economic or financial stability and political participation. He apprised that in order to acknowledge the role of women in agriculture, India has been the first country in the world to set up a National Research Centre for Women in Agriculture (NRCWA) in Bhubaneshwar during 1996 and in the year 2001, the Government of India launched a national policy for empowerment of women. Although NRCWA, KVKs and ICAR Institutes have undertaken several researches and facilitated women in agriculture, there is\ simultaneous need to empower them in real sense of empowerment that will be discussed and deliberated upon during this National Conference at SKUAST-J, he said. |
