Jammu, Jan 24: A five day training program on 'Disaster Management and Risk reduction initiatives through Forestry and Others' for IFS officers was today inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The training program is 8th in series which has been organized by School of Business, SMVDU exclusively for Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officers with funding from Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India. Dr. Jyoti Sharma, the convener and the program coordinator introduced the program and mentioned about the valuable interactions which will be the part of this training program. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Simrandeep Singh, CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. He described the disaster risk reduction initiatives taken by the SMVD Shrine Board to combat the uncertainties and accidents by being responsive with trained people, infrastructure and technology. The program participants are IFS officers from different cadres and states like Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. Prof. (Dr.) D. Mukhopadhyay, Dean Faculty of Management and Head, School of Business conveyed best wishes for the success of the program. Prof. V.K. Bhat, Registrar, SMVDU expressed confidence in beneficial outcome of this program by sensitizing the IFS officers for risk aversion techniques. He also shared about the plans of conducting such programs and MDPs in future to bridge the gap between academia and expediency. The resource persons for the event include Brigd. K.
